Inside Out

projectBrussels

The Golden Generation Arena student competition was an initiative organized by the Royal Belgian Football Association, the Memorial Van Damme, and the City of Brussels. This competition invited students from various universities to design a new multifunctional arena in Brussels, envisioned as a modern icon for top-level sport in Belgium.

Our project, “Inside Out,” is designed as an open structure—an oversized pavilion where the barriers between inside and outside seem nonexistent. A walking loop at the entrance level allows for easy circulation towards the different stadium entrances. More than just a pathway, this loop, made from recycled polycarbonate, integrates all the necessary accommodations for an enhanced arena experience.

On the ground floor, the stadium features a vast open market where shops, restaurants, a football museum, and a climbing center seamlessly blend together, offering a unique experience to the neighborhood—even when the stadium is not in use for sporting events or concerts. Ensuring maximum flexibility, the stadium is designed to be utilized throughout the entire year.
