Set within a typical Brussels row house in Saint-Gilles, this compact 4 m² bathroom transforms a small footprint into a calm and immersive retreat. Entirely finished in deep blue polyester, the space embraces a monochromatic material palette that enhances both light and texture, creating an atmosphere that is at once contemporary and timeless.
The custom furniture was designed by TOIETMOI Studio in collaboration with Fermetti, who also manufactured each piece with meticulous attention to detail. Together, the bespoke elements integrate seamlessly into the architecture, maximizing functionality while maintaining a sculptural presence.
A combination of indirect lighting and retro-inspired fixtures bathes the room in a soft, warm glow, balancing the coolness of the blue surfaces. A generous mirror amplifies natural light and visually expands the space, making the bathroom feel far larger than its modest dimensions.
The ceiling plays a subtle architectural role by articulating two distinct spatial experiences. A lowered ceiling at the entrance and above the shower creates a sense of intimacy, while the higher ceiling towards the window opens the room to daylight and reinforces the perception of height.
The entire polyester floor was carefully raised above the existing wooden structure, preserving the original fabric of the house while allowing for efficient water drainage and a seamless waterproof finish.
This project carries a deeply personal significance. Having lived in this home for four years, it was a pleasure to return and redesign a space so closely tied to my own daily life. Seeing the house evolve alongside its new owner gave the project a unique emotional dimension, bridging past memories with a new chapter.
